Managed IT is a broad term, so it is worth being specific about what is included before discussing whether it is worth it.
What “managed” means here
It means Unison owns the outcome, not just the equipment. We supply it, configure it, monitor it, maintain it, replace it when it fails and refresh it when it ages, for a monthly figure agreed in advance. There is no capital purchase and no separate maintenance contract.
The seven services
- Backup as a Service. Your data backed up and monitored, with retention, scheduling and restore testing handled for you.
- Disaster Recovery as a Service. A standby environment kept ready, with recovery targets agreed in advance and failover rehearsed before it is needed.
- Security as a Service. Enterprise security tooling with monitoring and threat response, without hiring a security team.
- Network as a Service. Switching, wireless and connectivity delivered as a service, refreshed on schedule and monitored throughout.
- Device as a Service. Hardware, imaging, helpdesk and end-of-life disposal in one monthly cost per user.
- Software as a Service. Licensing sourced, right-sized and managed, with renewals tracked and provisioning handled.
- Managed Print Services. Printers, consumables and servicing on a per-page basis, with the fleet monitored remotely.
They can be taken individually. Most clients start with one, usually backup or devices, and add others as contracts come up for renewal.
When subscribing beats owning
- When the capital is better used elsewhere. A refresh across several hundred devices is a large single sum; the same thing monthly is a line item.
- When the skills are hard to keep. Security monitoring in particular needs people who are difficult to hire and easy to lose.
- When the estate is growing or changing. Subscriptions scale in both directions. Purchased hardware only scales one way.
- When you are carrying risk you cannot quantify. An untested backup is a liability that does not appear on any balance sheet.
When it does not
There are cases where owning outright is still the better answer, and it is worth saying so.
If your requirement is genuinely static, if you already have a capable in-house team with time available, and if you have capital you would rather deploy than hold, buying and running it yourself will usually cost less across a five-year window. Subscription buys predictability, capability and someone else’s accountability. Where you do not need those things, you should not pay for them.
How it works with us
We start by looking at what you have, what it costs to run today including the time your own people spend on it, and where the risk sits. That produces a comparison rather than a proposal. If subscribing does not come out ahead, we will say so.
Support is delivered by our own engineers across Metro Manila, Pampanga, Cebu and Davao, so a device that needs replacing can be replaced by someone who can get to the site.
Let’s Compare It With What You Spend Today.
Unison delivers managed IT across backup, recovery, security, network, devices, software and print. If you want a comparison against what you spend today, we can put one together.
